Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account and order details. When you buy something or create an account: your name, email address, billing address, the products you buy, and your order and subscription history. We use your billing address to calculate West Virginia sales tax where it applies.
• Payment details. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card number goes to Stripe, not to us. We receive limited details from Stripe, such as the card brand, the last four digits and whether the payment succeeded.
• Forms and the email list. When you join our email list, request a free sample, apply for the Pharos Terminal beta, or download a free guide, we collect what the form asks for. Depending on the form, that may be your first and last name, your email address, how many students you have, and their grade levels. These forms are for adults and do not ask for a child's name or birthdate.
• Messages. Anything you send us by email.
• Pharos Terminal. A parent or guardian can add students and record lessons, hours and work samples. See section 5 and the Student Data & Privacy Notice.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, our servers and the services we use may record technical information, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, the page that referred you, and the date and time. See section 7 for cookies.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

• process orders, deliver downloads, run subscriptions and send receipts;
• provide Pharos Terminal and Reality Writes!, including the parent tracker and year-end portfolio;
• answer your questions and provide support;
• send the emails you signed up for (you can unsubscribe at any time from the link in any email);
• understand whether our ads and pages are working, and improve the site;
• protect the site and our customers, and prevent fraud;
• meet our legal and tax obligations.

3. How we share information

We share information only with service providers who help us run the business, and only what they need to do their job:

We may also disclose information when the law requires it (for example, a valid subpoena or court order), to protect the safety of a person, or to protect our rights. If the business is ever sold or transferred, customer information may move to the new owner. Any new owner must keep the promises in this policy for information collected under it, or we will tell you first and give you the chance to download and delete your records.

We never sell your personal information or your student's information, and we never share it with data brokers.

4. How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires. We keep order, payment and tax records for 7 years. If you apply for the Pharos Terminal beta and are not selected, we delete your application within 12 months. You can unsubscribe from our email list at any time, and you can ask us to delete your contact details. How long we keep student records is explained in the Student Data & Privacy Notice.

5. Pharos Terminal and student records (summary)

• The parent or guardian is the account holder. A student uses Pharos Terminal only through a parent's account.
• For each student we keep a first name or nickname and a grade, plus the lessons, hours, standards, notes, work samples and Reality Writes! sign-offs that the family records.
• Student records are stored in private AWS storage, in a separate folder for each family. They are not stored on the servers that host this website. Our website keeps only the parent's account, the subscription and a random ID that links the account to the family's folder.
• Pharos Terminal app pages do not load advertising or analytics tags.

6. Children's privacy

This website is intended for adults. Our forms, store and email list are for people 18 or older. Pharos Terminal and Reality Writes! are used by students in grades 7–12, and some of those students may be under 13. Students under 13 use these services only through an account their parent or guardian sets up and controls, with that parent's consent, as described in the Student Data & Privacy Notice. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 in any other way, we will delete it. Parents can contact us at any time to review or delete their child's information.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We use:

• Necessary cookies. These keep you signed in, hold your cart and checkout, and let students open their family's lesson files. The site needs them to work.
• Payment cookies. Stripe may set cookies during checkout to process payments and prevent fraud.
• Embedded content. Some pages show YouTube videos, and some pages load fonts from Google Fonts. These services may receive your IP address, and YouTube may set its own cookies, when their content loads or when you play a video.

Your choices: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies will stop sign-in and checkout from working. Our site does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" signals, because there is no common standard for them.

8. How we protect information

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, encrypted storage for student records, access limited to the people and systems that need it, and a separate private folder for each family's student records. No method of storing or sending information online is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting your information happens, we will notify you as the law requires.

9. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to:

• tell you what personal information we hold about you;
• correct it;
• give you a copy (Pharos Terminal families can also download their records and portfolios at any time);
• delete it, except what we must keep by law (such as tax records).

Some states give their residents specific privacy rights. We accept these requests from all customers, wherever they live. To make a request, email officialzacnorthup@zacnorthup.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for making a request.

10. Links to other sites

Our site links to other sites, such as Amazon, Audible, YouTube and social media. Their privacy practices are their own. Please read their policies.

11. Visitors outside the United States

We are based in the United States and our services are designed for US families. If you visit from another country, your information will be processed in the United States.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we use information we already have, we will tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
